But these cookies go much further than providing a treat for your taste buds they also provide the opportunity for farmers in the dry areas of Southern Africa to sustain an income from growing and drying grapes. This region of Africa traditionally struggles to secure any income due to the severe desert climate; this initiative utilises that climate to benefit the people and produce the delicious fruit contained in these cookies.

In 2004, 33 farmers in Malawi were introduced to Traidcraft at a conference organised and run by Traidcrafts market access centre. As a result of this initiative The Kasinthula Cane Growers' Association was formed and now real lives are transformed as farmers receive a fair price for the production of the organic sugar used in these cookies.
