Light to medium-bodied with notes of chocolate, red berries, and a hint of crisp lemon.
Our Uganda Rwenzori single-origin beans come from the lush slopes of the Rwenzori Mountains in western Uganda, a region famed for its rich volcanic soils, high altitudes and equatorial climate that help develop bright, clean and nuanced Arabica flavours.
Grown by dedicated smallholder farmers at elevations often between approximately 1,500 – 1,900 m above sea level, this coffee expresses a light-medium body with vibrant chocolate and red-berry notes balanced by a crisp hint of lemon, reflecting its premium washed processing and careful cherry selection.
The unique terroir of the Rwenzori — often called the Mountains of the Moon — gives these beans a distinctive clarity and brightness, with subtle fruit acidity underpinned by a sweet, approachable profile that shines in filter, pour-over or espresso.
Sourced ethically through a Direct Trade relationship, every bean supports sustainable farming practices and contributes to stable livelihoods for the local farming communities who cultivate this exceptional East African coffee
Strength 4
Jurang is a distinctive washed coffee hailing from the Rwenzori region in western Uganda, cultivated by dedicated smallholder farmers who balance coffee production with other essential food crops.
For these farmers, coffee farming plays a crucial role, providing income to support their families, particularly helping to cover school fees for their children.
The coffee cherries are hand-picked at peak ripeness and then processed meticulously by farmers using hand-operated pulpers. The resulting 'parchment' is dried naturally under the sun, turned regularly to ensure consistent drying.
Once fully dried, the coffee parchment is transported to the Agri Evolve coffee factory for a careful quality assessment.
Our Uganda coffee brings a lively fruit character and gentle citrus lift to both espresso and filter blends, shaped by the conditions of the Rwenzori Mountains and the care taken at every stage of production.
Farmers like Andrew play a hands-on role in that quality: after harvesting ripe cherries, he fully washes the coffee, carefully pulping it before slowly sun-drying the parchment to lock in clarity, balance and sweetness.
The fully washed process helps remove excess fruit material early on, allowing the coffee’s natural flavours to shine through with greater cleanliness, brightness and consistency in the cup.
Once dried, the coffee is sent to the Nyabirongo factory, where it is hulled, cleaned and graded, then packed into 60 kg sacks with GrainPro liners to protect freshness on its journey to the UK.
When the coffee reaches our roastery, it’s roasted with precision to highlight its natural fruit notes and clean structure, ensuring each cup reflects both the Rwenzori terroir and the skill of everyone involved, from farm to final roast.
We roast our coffee in small, carefully planned batches every 4–6 weeks to ensure a steady supply of freshly roasted beans at their best.
This approach helps preserve the natural oils, aromas and flavour compounds that begin to fade as coffee ages, giving you a fuller, more expressive cup.
Freshly roasted coffee retains more aromatic complexity and sweetness because exposure to oxygen, light and time gradually dulls flavour and increases bitterness in older beans.
By avoiding long periods on the shelf, we ensure the coffee you brew reflects the roast profile as intended, with better balance, clarity and consistency from the first cup to the last.
Sourced ethically via our Direct Trade relationships with origin farms, we are confident this coffee will transform your daily ritual into a celebration of happiness, one sip at a time.
That's why we've made it our mission to craft exceptional coffee that values everyone it touches, from the skilled farmers who cultivate our beans to the dedicated roasters who bring out their unique flavours, and finally to the coffee enthusiasts who savour each sip.
What's more, we are committed to building a better world, with a portion of our proceeds going straight back to meet the needs of the local communities where we source our coffee.
